Is it common to have fiberglass only stringers on larger boats? The only wood on my boat appears to be in and around the engine area, everything else is fiberglass. I first noticed when I took the boot off the stringer drives. The only supporting wood other than the 2 inch thick transom appears to be a simple 2x6 that is used to hold lag bolts and to help sandwich the top of the fiberglass stringer to the bottom of the motor mounts. I followed the stringers all the way up front, there is no wood, just fiberglass.
My 17' outboard tri-hull has nearly all wood stringers, my 18' tri-hull with a stringer has fully encased wood stringers, while this 28' cabin cruiser has very little wood.
