Has anyone built a simple outdrive stand for an Alpha 1. I dont not have a welder. I would like to make something out of 2X4s. I need to refinish the outside of the housing over the Winter. If someone has something, a pic would be great just to give a visual to base it on.

Thanks

Re: Home-made Outdrive Stand?

I took an old homemade engine stand I got for free and welded two peices of angle iron on it. I have also seen a wooden box, approx 16" cube with a slot cut out on the top for the drive to slide in and rest on the ears, soom 3/4" play wood work great

Man Don thats a nice shop, I am woodworker too, hows that grizzley dust collector work? and how is that planner? I just bought a ridged planner and man what a machine, blade change out in 5 min or less with no adjustment needed to the knives. woodworking was a hobby then I built cabinets as a sideline for 15 yrs, I quit from burnout now its just a hobby again after a 2yr leave, its fun again!!

Don,
Thanks for the pic. I assume the drive lays in horizontally? I'm going to try to work something up tomorrow. That looks like it will work.

The drive will fit vertically on the wooden stand Don shows, not horizontally. I made one very similar and it works well.

Re: Home-made Outdrive Stand?

Thanks Don,

I have it in my B&D workmate for now. Can do the upper half. The pics will help me to make something that will work better.
Thanks Again and Happy New Year!

Thanks Again.
That one design looks real simple. It is alot like I had conjured in my mind. All 2x4 which I already have.
My B&D Workmate is working ok, as long as I dont need it for anything else before spring.

Re: Home-made Outdrive Stand?

Here's a simple one I made. Easy to get to the nuts, and drain plugs as well. Designed it to be the right height w/ a skateboard under it. To fine tune the height I just crank the boat up or down in the front. Damn near falls into place. Note the bungie to hold tension on the prop so she stays in gear.

I have to second that! I love the skateboard! Looks like something I would do.. and will do next time I take off my outdrive!

I want to know about that white drive and all of the strange markings on it?

The skateboard is extra cool.

That is the original Alpha 1 Gen 1 made for Sea Ray and used on this 1988 Sea Ray 20' Seville (that's the green and blue SR logo and stripes to match). It was in near mint condition and obviously never seen salt water! It was mated up to the 175hp 4.3L. It was a fixer upper, I think the only boat I've ever made some money on when I sold it. I remember when going to buy the boat, from a distance as I pulled up to it I thought it was an OMC :(
ps: I like doing skateboard tricks Tony Hawk hasn't tried yet!

Cool skateboard idea, I am going to do something similar with an old moving dolly I have in my garage!
