Home made wakeskate

So i tried wakeskating this year and loved it, but didnt have the cash to buy a new one. I did a little reserch and found they are pretty easy to make so this is what i came up with.

I used 5mm thick ply and laminated 4 layers together putting a layer of fiberglass cloth between each layer to help the board keep its shape.

I achieved a solid 2inch continuous rocker,it just so happened that my cradles i use to put the boat on when i need to work on it had the perfect shape to give me what i wanted. So i just set the boards across it applied the resin and put about 100lbs on it to keep the shape until the resin dried.

I then cut the shape i wonted out of the blank i made, its 40inches long, 15inches at the center and 12inches at the tip.

sanded out my shape and the edges

sealed the deck with resin to prevent water damage to the seems left after sanding

I then used a mechanics pad that i used when i worked on my car and laminated it to the deck, then cut off the flashing to get a nice comfortable deck

I then added some personal touches, no the black dots are not part of it i edited it to prevent insulting people on hear cause it pretty out there and i dont want to get kick off the board..lol after i was done with the decoration i put a few coats of lacquer on it to protect it.

I also added normal off the shelf wakeboard fins

now i just need to fix my boats shift cable and i can rip up the river!

Oh i will, i enjoyed making it, i think i found a new hobby i can spend my winter doing.....i think i will try a double deck and a few designs of single decks

that's really cool. I cut down an old wakeboard to make a wakeskate, but you took it a step further. I bet it will feel great the first time you ride something you made.

That's pretty damn cool. But I wonder, if cost was the concern, did you really save much over the $100 that you can buy one for?

Anyway, I'm sure it will be much more satisfying to ride one that you made yourself.

I've been looking at these too, and think I might give it a try one of these days. I used to skateboard when I was younger, so doing it on water sounds pretty cool.

I've been looking at these too, and think I might give it a try one of these days. I used to skateboard when I was younger, so doing it on water sounds pretty cool.

I only had to pay 30 bucks for it, just needed the $10 of wood and $20 for the resin since i was out, everything else was hanging around my garage. I ripped my boat apart and rebuilt it a couple years ago and still have like 30 yards of fiberglass cloth and 30 yards of fiberglass matt.

I really like wakeskate vs wakebording, i have a bad leg and being strapped down really messes with it, the freedom of the wakeskate allows me to have better control and take longer rides. I watched a how to video on youtube to learn how to get up on it and it only took two tries and i was up.

Got out and rode the new home made wakeskate, and it rode freakin sweat! The only thing i found that was a problem is i think the fins are too big so i need to down size them to loosen up the ride a bit. But it was stable and rode great.

I took my first wakeboard, removed the bindings and added skateboard grip tape to it. Works like a charm. Be careful with the wake skates though. My cousin slipped off his and it ran over him with the fin. Hit right next to his eye and required stitches. We wear water sports helmets now. The helmet especially relieves the pain when crashing on a wakeboard.
