Hello, I've been kicking around the idea of building a wooden boat or a stitch and glue type for quite a while now. I'd like an open boat around 16' that I can fish a very shallow braided river with. I'd like to power it with a 3 cyl. outboard of 70 hp or less. What I really need is a good design or combination of designs. I know I could run shallow with a jon type hull but I hate the ride they have. I'm thinking of something a little more sophisticated. I've heard you can run an engine really high with a tunnel-keeled boat but I'm not too familiar with the concept or design.

I'm not afraid of complexity, infact if I'm going to go through all the effort I'd better have a conversation piece when I'm done. Some of my ideas have been converting a small jet boat like a Sugarsand or a Seadoo to a fishing boat, or building my own and installing a jet drive from a PWC type craft. But I really like outboards and would like to build a boat myself. How about a 3 point hydroplane with a trolling motor and fishing chairs???
