Homemade Trolling Motor Mount

I've got a 14' Lowe V shaped boat and have the perfect metal plate on the front of the boat with some pre-drilled holes (I assume someone had a trolling motor mounted there before). <br /><br />I would like to make/create something a little sexier than just a 2 X 4 strapped across the front of the boat for my trolling motor to clamp onto. Any suggestions? <br /><br />I guess I'm wondering if there are any "do-it-yourself" pictures/instructions out there that I could look at.<br /><br />It's a 24 lb. Minn Kota.<br /><br />I wasn't sure which topic this fell under. Thanks (can't wait for spring!)

frosteeone, I guess it all depends on how handy you are. My buddy is a welder and on his V he welded an entire sheet of aluminum diamond plate across the front 1/3 of the boat as a casting platform and built in a seat hole, anchor mount and trolling motor mount. Although his troller was a tiller model. Are you talking about a foot control?<br /><br />Either way, I think metal looks and performs so much better than wood on a trolling motor. However, you have to have the skill and the tools. Or know someone who does!

From a scale of 1 - 10, my handy rating is a 4.5...<br /><br />My boat already has some seats and a nice astroturf surface with some hidden compartments.<br /><br />No foot control. I've been strapping it onto the transom next to the 9.9 Mercury, but it gets kinda crowded in the back of the boat and I've got a spot to put a battery in the front (and get it all away from the gasoline tank).<br /><br />The only problem with having it on the front of the boat will be when my wife lays out on the middle deck (while I'm fishing), I'll have to step over her and fish from the front. Not a bad problem to have though. She does pass me beers and change the radio station for me...<br />
