I have a 85'Honda 10hp and the oil pressure light is on up to 1/2 throttle then it slowly fades out when increasing speed to full throttle. Is this an oil pressure sensor problem? I've changed and checked the oil, but problem still occurs. Any ideas?

Remove the sensor and try a screw in oil pressure gauge and see what the reading is. Run the motor through the throttle range and see how big the pressure differance is, could be a oil pump problem. what grade oil are you using?

I'm using 10-30 wt. Do you know what the pressure readings should be at the different rpm readings? I'm currently trying to find a service manual for some of the specs.

Hello Rip-a-lip<br /> I have found that the oil filter/screen gets plugged. It is located on the pick up tube in the sump/oil pan. I have found this problem with motors that are not used for long periods.

List your model number, the manual has many different specs depending on the model # and most are tested at a different rpm.

Re: Honda 10 hp oil pressure problem

The BF75 BF8A and BF100 have no Oil pressure specifications, the manual says " Note Oil pressure test specifications are not provided for models BF20 BF2A BF75 BF8A and BF100 If the oil pressure does not reach the value required to switch on the oil pressure indicator light, inspect the oil pump and strainer." I would start by using a oil pressure gauge and check the pressure from idle up to WOT and see if it is dropping off over 1/2 throttle, if it is you will need to pull the oil pump and check for a plugged screen or a worn pump. If the pressure is ok then check the sending unit and the pressure light. One other note the manual calls for 10W-40 in the BF100, this could make a differance in pressure.

i have pretty much the same issues with a bf15a. i just bought a repair manual from here. (good price too) so really... how much of a job am i lookin at to get to the pump and strainer. i've tried and tested everything else it could be.

I had to replace the impeller, killswitch, plugs, cdi box, motor and gear oil, fuel filter and rebuilt the carb just to take it out, then i find that i have a problem wit the oil pressure:( just wonderin if there's anything special i need to know before i start the job. thanks yall

Either way 15a or bf10 you will be looking at removeing the powerhead if those pressure numbers do not correspond. You should see around 25 -40 psi at the sender at idle on a manual guage.Carefull here, a plugged breather tube can give simililar symptoms.

if the breather tube your talking about is the rubber hose coming from the power head going down and exits next to the other one for the carb? i was able to blow through it fine w/the oil cap off. is the oil pump something that goes bad after about 10 years?

Re: Honda 10 hp oil pressure problem

I have never had to replace or rebuild an oil pump on one of these units.I have had to replace a few pickups. That does'nt mean it's out of the realm of possibilities. What was your maintenance regimine? It's a credit to you that you at least pay attention to that that light.

The pickup screen was covered in gunk. i cleaned it good with gas and let it dry, also wiped the oil pan clean. about 2 1/2 hours start to finish. i also put a strong lil magnet in the bottom of the pan with some epoxy. im goin run it today, i'll let ya know if it's fixed. thanks
