Honda 115 outboard gear case lube change

I have a 2004 Honda 115 outboard ser.# BZBD1500. The owners manual says to have an authorized Honda dealer change the lower unit grease. Is there some trick or extra difficulty in this routine maintenance procedure for the Honda 115? Any suggestions?

Go to your local outboard/boat/marine vendor and get the gear oil cange hand pump kit. It will have the fitting needed to connect to the bottom of the skeg where the drain plug goes. Remove the fill plug at the top, connect the pump to a Qt of honda gear oil and pump it in until the oil level reaches the top hole. Book states 1.1 Qt. The messy part is now with removing the fitting for the pump, keeping the gear oil from running out, while installing the drain plug screw.
Don't forget to repace the gasket on the drain plug screw and fill screw.

You mention Honda gear lube in this thread.....the manual indicates Quicksilver (merc) .....Just curious, does Honda make a gear lube?

Motor manufacturers make motors. Oil companies make lube. Merc sells rebadged house-label lubes, but does not make them anyway. Any good hypoid 90 should be fine. Just don't use the stuff that was designed for the old OMC electric shift LU's.
