a couple weeks ago the engine ran great in fwd and reverse w/no problem; then all of a sudden it started 'grinding' when I tried shifting into reverse and ultimately not catching (just more grinding if I continued to shift...not got good). Now if I try shifting it in reverse the shifter handle goes to reverse but the propeller doesn't go in reverse...just acts like neutral...did I break it?
the motor is on a sailboat and mounted such that it is difficult to take off and out to examine the lower unit in detail...so I'm trying to figure it out without doing that...thanks.
