Honda 2hp 4 stroke shaft length for square stern canoe

I plan on putting a Honda 2hp 4 stroke motor on my 15' square stern canoe. The stern transom is 17 1/4". Frequent shallow, rocky water in addition to lake fishing is the scenario. Would prefer minimal amount of motor hanging beneath canoe but still set for safe operation. Which would be best to put on canoe for use in these conditions: short shaft (15") or long shaft (20" with some sort of transom spacer)? I understand cavitation plate should be near equal to hull bottom, but . . . .? Thanks much for the help.

The canoe isn't likely to plane so you may even be able to raise the motor a little with a stick on top of the transom to hold the height while you tighten the clamp.
every little bit helps to keep it out of the rocks.

Did you end up using a short-shaft or a long-shaft ?

What model of square stern canoe do you have ?

I have a Honda 2hp short-stroke and am wondering if it is suitable for a y-stern canoe.

I inherited a Yamaha 5 hp long shaft on a Grumman square stern canoe. Not the configuration I would have set out to buy as the prop is waaaay down there, but the rig still seems to work ok from a handling / planing point of view...
