Hi, I have just purchased a Honda 40 HP (4250.00 UK pounds) as my budget would not stretch to a 50 HP (5250.00 UK pounds) however, both engines have identical mechanical specifications, apart from power output. How is the difference in power output achieved? is it just a different carburettor?

I think you will find that while they are the same cc displacement, there are differences in cam and cd specs, as well as carbs.

I thought the new Honda 50hp was now fuel injected?

Regardless, I have a 50 hp with a carburetor that I bought in 2008. From what I recall, the WOT on the 40hp is 5500rpm and WOT is 6000 rpms on the 50 hp. The 50 hp really starts cranking at the higher rpms. At 5000 rpms I was running at 25 mph. At 6000 rpms I was running at 32 mph.
