what is the difficulty level to rebuild the carb on this motor?

i recently purchased this motor, and run it this sat, it starts fine, but after the auto choke is off the idle is just above stalling, and stalls intermittently, and when powering up the engine to 1/2 to 3/4 throttle, it would surge and sputter shut down.

the motor had set up about 6 months prior to my purchase. i had used it 3 times prior to this sat with only low idle stalling problems.

also is the selco service manual as good as the honda service manual?

any and all advice and info welcome.

Run a very strong mixture of SeaFoam or Chevron injector cleaner through the carb. There should be a drain screw on the bottom of the carb, usually you just unscrew the screw a few turn and gas will run out of the bottom. Catch it and see if it is full of junk. Honda's have very small holes and do clog easy. Take off the bottom of the carb bowl and check the float valve to see if it is sticking, spray carb cleaner while you have it open.

On my Honda 8HP, servicing carb was not hard - don't know the 15 though. I found that the low speed (pilot) jet was somewhat clogged, and I had somewhat similar symptoms. Cleaning it with a thin plastic "wire" cured the "could not idle well" issues. That jet is removable from the outside of the carb on the 8HP (BF8AM, circa 1992 or so).

Various other posters have stated that if the carb is gunked, you need proper carb dip, not just the spray cans.
