Honda BF8 Carb Question

I was having some issues with my motor constantly stalling unless I kept the choke on the whole time. So I decided to take my carb apart and clean it out. I don't know much at all about boat motors but I'm fairly handy.

Anyways just out of curiosity, what does adjustment screw do?

Aside from the picture above, after taking apart, cleaning, reassembling the carb I decided to read up on it. Probably not in the best order but too late now. Anyways I learned of a jet screw adjustment inside the carb. When I put it all back together I didn't think anything of this perticular screw and I just screwed it back in snug. The motor ran fine in a bin of water, in neutral and in gear. It did bog a little when I opened the throttle all the way quickly, but compared to my issues before being able to accelerate and idle without the choke was a victory.

My second question is.... Would this jet screw be the cause of my bogging when quickly throttled open?

And last... How critical is the jet screw adjustment, am I ok to just leave it since the motor is working good? or should I take it apart and adjust it properly?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Honda BF8 Carb Question

That is the idle mixture screw and that silver cap on that screw is there to make this unit tamper resistant to pass epa and C.A.R.B. requirments.Do not **** around to much with that cap as you WILL break off the needle undreneath it.That cap can be removed but it requires a good deal of heat to melt the nutlock that holds it to the pilot screw.Even though these engines have an accelerator pump they still do'nt respond well to being stood on.You may be chasing a non problem.
