Honda controls

I have a 2002 Honda BF90 and have been looking for a Flush mount control. I found a used one with the cables and harness from a 2002 BF225. Will these work for the Honda 90?

Is this a control with the key switch in it? If so....it will work with the 90 as long as it has an internal choke switch or a push to choke key switch. If it is marked "EFI" on it, I do not think it has a choke switch.

The control is the flush mount with only the trim in it. I have a seperate ignition panel with a seperate choke switch. i bought these seperate. I do have a question. my new wiring harness has the main 14pin plug and then a seperate 4 pin plug wire that connects on motor side as well I cannot find what it is for and was not planning on using/putting on the motor. Would that be for a gauge or anything? I can take pics if that would help. My other wiring harness had it but it was not hooked up.

The control should work fine. The 4pin plug is for various warning lights, etc for the EFI's. There is no place to plug it in on the 90 carburated model.

Ok, so i now have the controls hooked to the engine. I thought I had them hooked in the right spots. How do you tell on the control "flush mount concealed" which cable is the throttle and which is the gear selector? I figured out on the motor. But, my neutral is way off. I have the cable on the outside of the "box" set up as the gear selector and the inside cable set up as the throttle? I have to pull the handle back towards reverse to actuall get in to neutral to start. First time i have hooked up a boat. Any help appreciated.

If so, then, you connect the cables to the control box first. If it is the Premium control, then there are only two pins to connect the cables to. Then you go to the motor and if you align the slots on the ends of the cables where they are connect to the engine, one is a little longer than the other. You should notice that the throttle and the shift should align with them. You will have to rotate the end connectors to get everything to fit.

Just remember to make all connections with the motor and the control box in neutral.

The only other control that Honda offered was made by Teleflex. If this is more like the control that you have, then just follow the directions.

It is the first one that you listed. Does it matter which end you have on the motor side. I have the one with the rubber covers? I then used the metal piece that slips over the slot on the cables to hold firmly to the engine. They seem short. The cables themselves are long enough but seems like not enough adjustment.

Well I figured it out. Ya would have thought I was a blonde headed woman. After switching the cables to the right spots on the motor it worked perfectly. Now my other question is this, I purchased the honda wiring harness for the gauges. On the ignition side of the harness there are two black with yellow stripe wires, one is connected to the fuse. Coming from the ignition there is only one black/yellow stripe wire. My question is: do I plug both on the harness to the one on the ignition? What wire is it? Thanks
