my 1982 gold wing has sat for a few years now. how hard is removeing the carbs to clean them out going to be ? i'm still working on figuring out how to get the fake gas tank off. i think the fairing has to come off first. thanks for any help
Hi, I had an '86 1200.
From what I remember, You start by removing the saddlebag covers, then the seat, then the fairing pockets, full fairing removal should not be nessesary, now you should be able to access the false tank. I know mine was a little different than yours, but its a start. A Chiltons repair manual will prove invaluable for your work.
thanks roscoe, i finally moved the fairing and found the bolts for the false tank. after looking at the carb. assy , i thought mabey it was getting to compelcated for me. i'm not sure i can handle the mess i see. can i clean the carb assy with out removeing everything?/
Good question, I don't know. I was able to run mine for 6+ years with only one repair needed.

I had to replace the thermo switch that activated the fan. I only had to remove 97, yes 97, pieces to change it.
