Does anyone have one of the new Honda vtec 90hp outboards. If so how does it perform and what size of boat is it on? I have one coming on a Lund Impact 1675 and hoping it will give me 42+mph. Assume it is quiet and excellent on gas like all the other hondas are.
Thanks

Sounds like you have a real nice rig on the way. I'd also like to hear from any mid size vtec owners. Can't beat a Honda for quiet and reliable power.

Vtec operates on an oil pressure driven solenoid that kicks in an extra intake valve at the appropriate rpms.Have a lot of them in use both commertial and recreational with few complaints.

Re: Honda VTEC 90hp

I just got one a few days ago, I like so far, good hole shots. My boat is a 18` cc semi v fiberglass. I had it up too 30mph .. at 5500 rpms went to 5900 but only for a few seconds. I liked it at 5ooo I hope thats not to high for long periods. The boat went 26 mph that`s good for me. Is that hull fiberglass or alum.

Re: Honda VTEC 90hp

My boat is aluminuim and is 16'9" long. It has a dry wieght of 1175#. Yours being an 18' fiberglass I would assume it is quite a bit heavier. Glad you are happy with it. Mine is suppose to be in next week. The dealer said it would have a great hole shot from the ones he had sold.
Thanks

Gasman1-

42 MPH might be a bit optimistic on that Lund. I am thinking more along the lines of 36-38. As a target, Prop for 5800 RPM's at WOT (that is the peak of the power band on that outboard) and no higher than 6300 WOT.

It is a great outboard- it will work extremely well on that Lund Impact. Let us know what kind of numbers it is putting up after you get it in the water....

Check BoatTest.com for a comparable boat combination. You have to sign up on the forum to get access to the test reports--but it's free.

It's a great place to find performance information about any kind of boat or PWC--including best prop sizes.

It will be in this week but unfortunately I am going to be away. I will probably get it the beginning of next week and will post what the top end is with the rpm.
Thanks for the replies

I have a 2005 lund explorer 1600 SS equipped with a honda bf50 dry weight of 860lbs that does between 35-38 mph with 1 person. I just ordered a 2011 90VTEC that will be installed next Thursday. I'm expecting 45 MPH. Will let you know.

Re: Honda VTEC 90hp

I was kinda of hoping to get at least 40mph. I based that on the fact I use to have a Princecraft 164 sport with a 75 etec and with 2 people could get 43 mph out of it. It is 150# lighter and slightly smaller foot print but thought that putting the 90 honda on the impact they should have been pretty equal. Will find out next week. I havent even talked to the dealer about the prop, just assuming he is going to put the one best suited for the boat. Took a peak at the impact under the shrink wrap yesterday and looks like a nice boat, can hardly wait till next week.
