Honda Warranty

I have just bought a new 5HP honda outboard, on the maitenance page it has items marked 02 it states Note 2 These items should be serviced by Honda outboard motor dealer, unless the owner has the proper tools and is mechanically proficient. Refer to Honda shop manual for service procedures.

So can I service it myself and will my warranty still be valid, I will use all Honda specified oils etc, Thanks.

Yes, you can do them yourself, just log the service in the owners manual or boat log so there is a record.

Thanks for the reply just wanted to make sure warranty valid , I have also contacted Honda UK who have now replied at first said only a Honda dealership could do the servicing, but I pointed out that the manual states different.

You are dealing with Honda Marine U.K..I have no way of knowing how that U.K. warranty is written or allowed to be enforced.It may well be entirely different than it's U.S. counterpart.

Thanks for the reply, as I have said contacted Honda UK and poited out that the manual states you can do the servicing yourself if you have the tools and are mechanically competant, well I have a friend who is a mechanic and told Honda that he would be doing the service and I would use genuine Honda oils etc and they have now said that will be fine.

Honda does not require you to use HONDA oil. My owners manual says to use API Service category SG,SH,SJ, or SL with the starburt cettification. I don't know of any US oil sold other than maybe AMSOIL that does not meet these requirements unless you are buying a speciality type oil.
