I've seen this before but I never noticed it was a pretty large boat for a single axel trailer.

Yeah, it looks like the trailer was over-loaded.

It might have had a winch-strap, but there were certainly no rear straps involved.

It looks like the tung "gave", which might have broken a winch-strap, and allowed the boat to continue its forward movement?... On second thought, looks like the "bow support" (that's what I'm calling it) is still there... Who knows WHAT happened. Probably no straps at all...

Is that a fold-away tung on that trailer, or what? I don't get how it failed like that...

The boat is a Bayliner and they are often sold with single axle trailers. Not a bash, just a fact. I had a 21' cuddy on a single axle trailer. Towed fine for the two years I owned it.

Maybe that 1/4" thick fiberglass isn't very heavy.

hmmmmmm ... ya know ...... if he just installed a snorkle intake riser and a high, vertical exhaust pipe on that Dodge, he could just do away with the trailer! Yup, that's it - just back the truck down into the water and launch the boat! :D

At least it sailed up over top of the cab. You have to look at the positive side of things.

This truck has hit the utility poll, look closer at the front bumper. Also coolant fluid puddle is below the truck is evident. But yeas, I agree, this guy does not have any transom straps. This guy is lucky, few more mph and boat could have plowed his cab possibly killing him and passenger(s).

Clearly the truck has hit the pole. I don't think ANYBODY missed that fact. The coolant puddle is a nice indication that the truck has struck the pole, but so is the pole that the truck is partially wrapped around.

The crumpled hood, bumper, and front quarter panel are all evidence that the truck made contact with the pole that it's wrapped around, as well... ;)

But the tongue on the trailer has also failed.

So the question is, did the truck hit the pole because the trailer failed, or did the trailer fail when the truck hit the pole?

My guess is that these folks got drunk on the lake, loaded up the boat, forgot to strap it down. Drive away, too drunk to navigate a turn, hit the pole, which stops their forward movement. The boat, not being strapped down, continues it's forward movement up the bow support pillar on the trailer, which angles the bow upward and over the truck.

As the boat continues traveling up the bow support, the full weight of the boat was transferred to the bow support, and in turn, to the trailer tongue, which causes the tongue to fail. The boat continues forward a few more feet, before coming gently to rest on top of the cab.

Drunk A**holes stagger out of the truck, and wonder aloud, "wah-happen?".

This boat really flies. Minor scratches, but they are on the bottom so you don't see 'em when in the water. One of a kind customized trialer.....
