Re: Honeymoon Destinations

I didn't think to much about the cold, I think south it is. We have been looking into Florida.

I would consider Ocala National Forest. We stay in a log cabin on a large lake. Quiet, pieceful, and very romantic. Grab a cane pole and some crickets.......Enjoy!

Google St. George Island, FL...it's fantastic for newlyweds. I know...I cook for most of them! And I'll throw in a complementary fishin trip or river sightseer. Richard

Re: Honeymoon Destinations

I agree that a trip south would be better in April.
Save my prior recommendations in Michigan for a mid-season trip, though.
You and your bride will not be disappointed.

That would be great! I'll let you know what we decide.

I don't think we will be dissapointed wherever we go ;)

Good rental cabins on Dale Hollow Lake here in TN, as well as Center Hill lake. Houseboat rentals all over, and don't forget some fantastic rental cabins in the Smoky Mountains.

Re: Honeymoon Destinations

What is the most "memorable" trip in the states you two have taken (with or without) eachother. I have travelled all over the US as I'm sure many have.

Me and my girlfriend took a road trip to Missourri, hit the 3 big cities and headed home. We did not enjoy that too much. We went an hour north to a log cabin at a casino for 1/10 the price and had a much better time. it all depends on what you like.

If it were me, and after a wedding, I would head to a beach, but I love PEACE, Calm and Tranqulity. I might drive up the hwy 1 coast in Cali with a convertible staying at some B and B's or vineyards. If neither of you have taken that scenic trip, its worth it. Fly into San Diego, rent the convertible, and take-off from San Francisco.

I had a boss that took a trip to Nashville with his wife, no reservations. He said it was actually one of the cheaper trips he was on, and they planned there next hotel while on the road using a smartphone. Apparently you can get some good last minute deals and hotel upgrades doing it this way.

We enjoy going to Colorado, but we would like something different. We are definatly thinking some tropical climate and beaches now. I think we will probably end up in Florida, it seems we agree on that. There's just so many places to stay.

Re: Honeymoon Destinations

I go to Orlando somewhat regularly (every year or so), and I enjoy Orlando. We honeymooned at Disney and really enjoyed it, but anymore we have found Sea World to be nicer.

This past year I visited Cocoa Beach and Destin for the first the times. Both were nice. I'd actually like to go back to Cocoa for a longer stay.

But the Florida destination that holds the "I wanna' go there" allure is St. Augustine. We've talked about it for years and just haven't made it. It looks wonderful, and I've always heard really good things about it.

Get on vrbo.com and rent yourself a nice house. Heck maybe even get one with a pool. My aunt and uncle have a nice condo in Bradenton, FL and 10 years ago they let us use it for a week for our honeymoon. It was great. Low-key non-touristy area that just happens to be 10 mins from beautiful gulf coast beach. Always wanted to go back but haven't made it.

Re: Honeymoon Destinations

Another vote for Florida.

Look into the St Pete Beach/Treasure Island and Clearwater Beach areas. Those are destination wedding locations, have great accommodations, geared towards the younger crowds (Sheppards on Clearwater Beach is insane). 99% of the hotels are on the beach or across the street from it, sugar white sand, gorgeous sunsets everyday, and awesome inshore and/or offshore fishing all the time.

I prefer the St Pete Beach/Treasure Island area over the Clearwater area. SPB/TI aren't as crowded, and the beaches are better. If you do the SPB/TI, I have some fantastic and affordable restaurants to recommend.

You could also just move the wedding down here, and get married on the beach. Wife and I got married on Honeymoon Island, and it was awesome. :)

Re: Honeymoon Destinations

I Would suggest the Crystal Coast of N.C.(Emerald Isle to Salter Path), Ocracoke or Bald Head island. Great time of year, Not too crowded, fair weather, beautiful beaches-Ocean- sunrises/sets, and just a great place to enjoy. I may be biased in my opinion though!

Re: Honeymoon Destinations

A honeymoon is no occasion for fishing and watching trains.

Go to Florida and you won't regret it.

Have a great time!

Cheapboatkev is in that area and may have some recommendations. It's a beautiful area and we enjoyed our time there a lot. We went in May.

Re: Honeymoon Destinations

I enjoy staying at West Palm Beach. Much more relaxed and laid back then Ft. Lauderdale. If you like night life and lots of teens and 20's on the beach, you will prefer Ft. Lauderdale.

Great fishing just off the shore in this area of south FL. Have done well all times of year. Find a guide with a "smaller" center console (24 - 28 ft) and lighter gear so you can feel the fish ... much more fun than the "big boats" IMO. I have fished with a couple guys out of Jupiter and every trip has been a good one. Have fun!

Re: Honeymoon Destinations

For once I agree with Art.:p If you can get on a bunch of Redfish and Speckled trout (and maybe even some Tarpon and all sorts of other stuff) that beats the heck out of blue water as far as I'm concerned. That's not to say the offshore trips aren't fun, but it takes minutes to travel to and from the flats as opposed to hours to and from offshore destinations, and pound for pound it's hard to beat the fight (and taste:D) of flats fish. Also, if you do end up in the Sunshine State don't hesitate to take a big heavy spinning or baitcast rig. Surf fishing right outside your back door (provided you ever go outside;)) can be productive and a lot of fun. A twenty will buy all the bait and tackle you need. As far as a destination, we've been going to Seagrove for years and love it. It's quaint and quiet, which may not be your thing, but if it is I'll be glad to tell you more. I second VRBO. We've rented lodging there several times (in several places) and never been disappointed.

Re: Honeymoon Destinations

We decided we are going to Branson. We rented a condo right on the shore of Table rock lake so it should be fun. Still debating wether to pull the boat down with us or not, my F150 gets awful thirsty with the boat in tow.
