Horse power rating?

What year did they start rating HP at the prop?
Thanks

Re: Horse power rating?

Different makes and even different models in different years.

We generally consider 1985 as a date when they were all prop rated.

I remember the Fed making it a requirement as of the 1988 model year, but most models in every brand were rated that way by that time.

Re: Horse power rating?

Would a 1980 Johnson 35hp be rated at the prop?

Re: Horse power rating?

No.

You could have asked that right away if that is what you really wanted to know.

What I really wanted to know was there one year that industry wide all motors were rated at the prop. Since there isn't I needed to know about the 1980 Johnson motor.
