Everyone on this board has made some very useful points. It sounds to much like rocket science to me if all you want to do is ski. If you are going to be teaching larged frame people to ski you will need the hp. I would say no less than 150hp. Teaching someone without a clue to ski in a large heavy boat can be murderous. I taught a lot of kids to ski on a 16' alum fishing boat with an 18hp johnson and was very effective. very nimble on the constant turnarounds and not much of a wake to deal with. I have skied 4 exp. in 165hp i/o without much problem once out of the water, to me that is the key.<br />Just putting in my 1/2 cent because I'm new to the board

Good question wierdna! I just bought my first boat this year. Not having any experience with skiing, I was very happy to see a skiers rope in the boat when I bought it. The boat is a 17' fiberglass bowrider, with a 140HP OMC I/O(I know there are comments on this, go ahead). Me not having any experience on skis, and the wife having about 5 minutes experience at the helm, tells me that I will be buying a tube!!;) I also will be getting a different pitch prop to help get the boat going alittle quicker. Also for the record, as my name states, I am 6'8" 225#

Think maybe the OP figured it out by now? Considering that was his one and only post here......
