Hose from block.....

I was rebuilding the fuel pump and noticed a hose was off on the engine on the starboard side. It goes from the bottom of the block to near the flywheel. Very small in diameter. It was dry rotted and not connected on the block connection.

Anyone know what it is?
Thanks

It would be nice to know what type of engine you are referring to. I suspect the mall hose is one of the bleed hoses. That being the case, it is time to get about 20 feet of hose ( for a V-6) and replace all of them, otherwise you will score the crank bearings.

Eric, if you are talking about your inline six, that is a line (3/32"?) that allows oil that collects in the bottom of the crankcase to lubricate the upper main bearing. Clean the checkvalves (they unscrew) and replace the hose.

It's also a "coast guard" safety thing. Marine fuel pumps (99%+) inboard/outboard types and many I-6 were vented into the block. In the event of a pump failure it would vent the fuel and vapors into the engine and not the air.

Yes Chris it is the 3/32(?) hose.
