Hose on an L Drive

I have a 1992 120 hp L Drive and I am wondering if it is a bad thing that the giant "Ribbed" hose on the lower unit is cracked? It has a couple small cracks from dry rot in it and when I pull it out of the water or after I run it on the muffs, water drips out really slow for a minute or two. Could this be sucking water in? Would that cause performance problems? I hope not because it is a $170 hose new!! Thanks!

well there is 2 hoses there. 1 is for exhaust the other to keep water out away from the transom bearing. Its bad if they both go bad. your exhaust hose can suck water into the motor and ruin your lower cylinder. How long has it beem going on? how has it been running?

Runs up to 2500 rpms and bogs. Doesn't die, but just won't go any higher. It has been cracked like that since I bought it. I have had the plugs out several times and havent noticed any water when turning over, so Hopefully I can replace that Big hose and it will be ok. It is the Larger Diameter hose that is cracked. It comes from the Exhaust manifold inside the boat, through the transom, and down to the lower unit.
