Re: hot dogs

OK, I actually took the time to do a little hot dog research. Appearantly Here in NY Hartmann's, Hoffmanns, and Zweigels are the king and in that order. I've only ever had Zweigels and they make Nathans and Hebrew National look like Oscar Meyer. Any one who is not from this area is really missing out. I'm sure there are fantastic regional brands allover but the dogs in upstate NY are truly world class.

P.S. I've been to Teds in Buffalo and I was not impressed.

I like Hillshire Farm Beef Smoked Sausage grilled or nuked. They look like hot dogs to me and taste good.

Re: hot dogs

I grew up eating Coney Island hotdogs while on vacation in Massachusetts. I still go up there every summer and sometimes in the winter and stop by this place in Fall River, MA:

They consist of a boiled dog on a steamed bun, mustard, onions, and spicy chili. You get six of 'em for about $4 and the ladies love it when you take them there for a cheap date...:rolleyes:HA HA!

I try to make them at home sometimes, but it's just not the same.

I have to agree, NY has the best hot dogs. The pizza is better up there too (I can?t stand franchise pizza). The best pizza up here is chicago style from a place in downtown Houston. Its ok and its actually like the pizza they serve in Chicago. I like NY style better.

I cook my hotdogs on the bbq pit.

When the wife and I were younger (and broke) she would put a bunch of hotdogs in their buns in a large oven pan. Then she would put chilli, onions, cheese and diced tomatoes on top, heat it up on the oven and serve. I guess it was like a hotdog casserole. It taste great but, me and the wife wore it out long time ago. As I get older I also notice my body cant handle all the junk I use to put in it, so the casserole is out of the question.

All this talk of coney island has me getting very hungry.
Anybody ever come across a descent coney island recipe?
I know there are 100's of them out there, but are there any good ones?
I just downloaded a bootleg version of nicks, I think I'm going to try to talk the wife into making it.

Re: hot dogs

No i'm in central NY. I live between Syracuse and Utica in a town call Vernon . :).

Wife has family there. She's from Lee. I was at Griffiss from 82 till it closed. Learned to boat on Lake Delta. Really miss the pizza and the new England style hot dog rolls.

If you go into a "pizza place" here and ask for "a slice" they say of what?
