Don "The Wizard" is right again and like he say`s we all make mistakes but we learn from them .Were like doctors and can only do our best and sometimes we get led astray by believing what we see is correct.Because we`ve done it 100 times before, the mistake slips by .
missing rotors
missing impeller keyways
shift shaft washer missing
hose connections wrong
loose fan belts
trim tab bolt left out of the housing
Quad ring missing
Owner forgets to put oil in the drive.
etc,etc,etc.

Re: Hot Exhaust Risers.

I totally understand. I have a pic of the old motor and the hoses are also on wrong. The kid who did the motor just put them back on like they came off. He has been doing work for sometime but I don't think he has the experience to have caught it. There is an older guy there though whom is also a commercial fisherman. He seems extremely knowledgeable and should have caught it when the younger guy asked for advice.

None the less I called for the shop hours so I could go down in the morning and let them know, and ended up leaving them a voice mail to check the hoses. I'll be down first thing in the morning with my shop manual and photos just the same.

Thanks again!

Look at Just Jason's signature line. especially the first line.

just because you found it that way... doesn't mean it's supposed to be that way.

Re: Hot Exhaust Risers.

Just a follow up on my boat.

Went by the Marina this morning and talked to the mechanic as he was putting my Riser back on. I explained to him about the hoses being on wrong, and explained how I knew. he said it makes sense and switched them. But before he cranked it up he checked his shop manual and said you were right. He said he was quite imbarrassed and should have caught it. We tested the motor and the risers stayed cold to the touch, but the motor was running at 170 now. I asked him what temp thermostat was in it and he said a 160. So after I got it home I went and got a 140 and will put it on tonight.

The mechanic told his boss that he had put the hoses on wrong and the shop owner took almost $500.00 off my bill. I'm all set to be on the water this Sunday!

Thanks again, dAvE :D

The shop owner knows how to keep a client, too.
