My 2000 175HP Johnson has 4 lights on the OMC tach; one of which is labled "HOT." It lights (and alarms) intermittently when the motor is first started or when it idles for several minutes and when the water pressure gauge is showing a very low flow. I have a temperature guage, which show normal temp, and the flow out the waterpump tell-tale appears normal. Once the RPM comes up, the water pressure guage also goes up.
It just started doing this trick this weekend. At first, it only happened after idling for several minutes, and the light would go out once the RPM increased. Later, it started staying on, even at higher RPM, but does not always come on at all. I really don't think the engine is getting hot, but I have been wrong before! Do I need to install a new water pump kit, or is this some sort of bad sensor problem?
