Johnson 1976 115 hp Glastron T-17B
Boat is running well. Pulling wakeboarders right up out of water at 7,000 ft elevation.
When I shut down motor after running and try to restart, It just won't restart without some persuasion. I have to go through the same procedure #1 shown below as I do when starting up cold from the dock. This is kind of a bummer when stopping to let wakeboarders back into boat.
I can see two problems but time on water is scarce, so I am reluctant to make changes and screw things up.
1) Automatic choke does not work. Not a big deal. Remove cover, pump bulb hard, manually close choke, start...cough...die... open choke manually and starts right away.
2) Marks on cam follower for Link and Sync are not lined up right. Roller might be 1/4 inch short of (Start) mark while in the Start position.
I have the manuals, so I know and can follow the procedure, no problem. I would think that the motor would start "hot" without needing to choke it. What is interesting is that it tries to start, coughs and dies while choke is manually on. Yet, it actually starts only when butterflies are open.
Which leads me to believe that it has something more to do with the "Link" between the carbs and the timing since I can see that they do not line up with the marks on the follower.
Obviously, I should fix both, but I don't want to risk missing a day on the water since the wife and kids will be very disappointed. Boat runs like a champ once it is running.
