At Shasta Lake in Ca its $8 at the "public" ramps and around 20-25 for the private ones.

They charge if you launch or if you park.

Its $100 for a season pass to all the "public" ramps.

The thing that gets me is even the so-called public ramps are ran by a private company?? what gives??

It's 3 bucks at my launch or 20 for the season. I could not imagine paying 25 bucks for one day's use, that's insane.

I bought Md's State Park Passport. It's $75 but you can launch at any state park's ramp with it. It also takes care of other fees, gives you $.10 off a gallon at their marinas, etc.
Luckily 2 of the ramps I use the most so far are state park ramps.

Otherwise they charge $10 to use the ramp.

Chics (ripoff) marina and a few others on Lake George in Bolton landing, NY charge $25 to launch, $10 to park your car and $5 to park your trailer, so $40 in total.

They sucker in most of the New York City and NJ tourists. Plus gas at most marinas on the lake last year was $5 a gallon.

I did notice a hell of a lot of vacancy signs last season on the motels around the lake. No wonder with those prices to use the lake.

$25 a launch, what kind of drugs is the owner of that establishment smoking?! In Tampa, I have never run across any ramps that charge anything for launch or retrieval. In Kissimmee, I think I paid $4. For $25, I expect you to get your family in the boat, while still on the trailer, while the attendant puts plug in, removes the straps, and proceeds to back your truck down the ramp. After that, they can park your truck, return the keys to you, and push you out from the dock. Upon retrieving, they can clean the boat, flush the engine, and put it on the trailer for you, with a courtesy bar with plenty of alcoholic beverages so you can sulk about that mortgage payment you're making for taking the boat out 20 times a month.

Re: Hot over $25 launch fee!

This thread is just scary to me. I read about all the fees and such for launching on the lakes that taxpayers paid to build (most likely), and about folks "willing to pay" in order to recoup the money spent to build the public launch. Seems to me the money used to build the public launch was tax dollars--you already paid for it. Luckily, in my state as far as I know all public launches built by the government are totally free. I'd go postal if someone wanted 25$ to launch. That place in NY that wanted $40 total makes me wonder. But if it's private, let them charge what they want if someone's stupid enough to pay it. I think even if it's a private launch on a lake built by taxpayer money, the private launch sharks should have to pay a certain % of their launch fee to the government to repay the taxpayers for building their gold mine.:(
The politicians figure every possible angle to squeeze every nickel out of the taxpayers. Sickening!

Here's what I would do ... get the word out to all the boaters that you run into at various ramps ... try to devise some way to collect all of the receipts for launches at those ramps .... at the end of the season, take the box full of receipts of the competitors of the greedy dude, and hand it too him. Hopefully the box will contain hundreds of receipts, all of which represent money not spent at his launch ramp.

BTW, where I live, 25 bucks will get a 22' boat hoisted both into and out of the water!

I pay 35 bucks a year to launch where I do, its a yacht club, but well worth it in my opinion. The launch is very nice, gets deep quick, never had any issues with finding the bottom. and I have yet to find one person even attempt to "powerload" which is kind of nice!

Re: Hot over $25 launch fee!

The two $28 ramps that I talked about are private. These two reservoirs were built and currently own by the water company. No taxpayer money involved except the state's DNR is managing the fishery which I'm not complaining because it's among the best in the state. The water company leases the ramp to the private marina which set/collect the ramp fee. The only reason anyone uses those ramps is because it the only ramp to the lake.

$10/launch or $100 for the year at the county ramp near me. it's pretty nice though as far as ramps go. 4 lanes to the water, bathrooms, big parking lots. the courtesy dock is way too small for 4 lanes though.

Re: Hot over $25 launch fee!

What would I do to pay $5 or $10 for launching my boat!!!! In LA County CA :mad:most of the lakes charge $15-$25. Castaic Lake CA charges $24 in the summer and $20 in the Winter. You can launch in the salt water for $10. Im moving to another state. I hardly take my boat out anymore.

Re: Hot over $25 launch fee!

its all about the property tax and insurance the private owner has to pay for his ramp and parking lot facility vs the government tax exempt law suit exempt, subsidized facility.

Re: Hot over $25 launch fee!

The launch ramp at the private marina where my house is charges that much.

Unless they put a gun to your head and the demand the $25, I guess you still have a choice to accept the price or not.

Mine is up to $35 plus a $30 fee to check for the quaga mussels.

Wow thats expensive bruce.

Here our scale houses on the weekends will post signs that all boats must exit to scale house. They are checking weeds and zebra mussels on trailers and boats. Its a 500$ if your caught ditching the scale.

Re: Hot over $25 launch fee!

It seems to me, I'm afraid to say, that this is only the beginning. Whether they are public owned/operated or public owned/leased to vendor to operate, or sold off to generate income, our government at all levels is seeking out new sources of income. And, they like to go after the things that typically represent wealth (they are jealous and don't believe poor people own boats). Its a use tax like it or not. And, we just keep paying.

At Lake Mead, its $20 each for the boat and truck. I bought the $80 Federal Park annual access pass. Someone told me the rates are going up again next year.

Re: Hot over $25 launch fee!

So taking the boat out 4 times a month is $100........ I pay less than that to keep it in dry storage. Call the marina when I leave the house and it is in the water when I get there. Leave it at the dock when I am done and they put it up. I use the ramp twice a year.... Once in May to take it to the marina and once in October to take it back home.
