HOT TEMP GAUGE QUESTION

With muffs on and engine running my temp gauge eventually pegs to 240...however; risers and manifolds are cool to the touch but block is pretty dang hot. Does this mean the engine water pump is bad? If the manifolds and risers are clear and getting plenty of water and staying cool does that mean the impeller is probably ok?<br />Thanks

Re: HOT TEMP GAUGE QUESTION

You didn't mention if your engine is fresh water cooled or raw water cooled. In any case there's obviously enough water going through the engine that it shouldn't overheat and a new impeller won't help. I would start with the thermostat. you might try removing it (to allow full coolant flow) and see if the engine stays flat cold, which it should. If that doesn't work, start looking for blockages in the system. If it is fresh water cooled (with coolant and a heat exchanger) you could also check the water pump although they usually just leak rather than stop pumping. You might also check out the other overheating posting in this section.

i had the same problem before the termostat could be stuck in the closed position if you have heat extanger/antifreeze coolant
