Hot water in Bilge?

I have an '86 Bayliner volvo 2.3L with a penta 275 outdrive. while it is running i have noticed that it leaks water from somewhere behind the engine up toward the top on the left hand side. The water is very very warm and I cannot exactly see where it is coming from. anyone have any ideas? I am have not yet had a chance to stick my head back there while I have been out on the river, so not sure where it is comeing from would this be caused by a blockage somewhere in the sea water cooling system? Any input would be helpful. Thanks!

I'd definitely be checking hoses to begin with....but don't stop there. You really need to be sticking your head in there to see where it's coming from. Run it on the muffs with a garden hose.....helluva lot better there than getting stranded on the river.

Does it appear to be coming from the back of the motor?

There is a freeze plug in the upper left hand side of the block. Check to make sure it is closed. There is also one around the oil cooler that is in the same area.

I am pretty sure it is not comming from the freeze plug. it looks to be comming from maybe a large hose just to the left side of the engine going to the transom. It is not a great deal of water. Is it normal for boats to take on water in the bilge in during a day of boating, and if so, how much would you say. I would say in the case of my boat the bilge pump would kick on maybe 3 times in several hours of boating. Thanks!

Your boat should take on no water other than spray or melted ice. If you are leaking enough water to make your bilge pump kick on, in my opinion it's too much, and you need to find the source of your problem before it gets worse.

J. Down here we get more in bilge than that but it is from ice melting to cool the beer. I agree if that is not the source better find out now before the you end up with an achor where the motor belongs.

Thanks for all the input, I will get it checked out shortly, I am taking it out this afternoon, so I will see if i can find out where it is comming from.
