Hours power ratings

Hi all I was just informed that the Force engines Pre merc were rated for hours power at the crank and after Merc they were rated at the prop shaft, a marine shop gave me this info I was just wondered if it was true

They were off about 5hp.So a 88/85 is actually a 90.J

Don't hold me to the exact date, but around 1982 and certainly before 1984, all outboard manufacturers went to prop shaft rating. At this time, for example, Chrysler downrated it's 4 cylinder 105 to 90 HP to reflect true HP at the prop.

Therefore, all Force engines were horsepower rated at the prop.

Due to the regressive gearing ratio and due to the fact that, again for example, Mercury always under-rated the horsepower it's engines delivered, Force engines never were as fast as the major brands. Later years (mid to late 90s) were better though.
