took a good look at photo above and note you have float carbs, mikuni or keihin. when starting w/o prime is the air box attached?--anyhoo, could be crap in carbs "enrichment" circuit

That was a add they had ...Someone mentioned a price of $25.00 bucks for a ride.. heck I'd pay that just for a ride!!
np BUT I also like air boats...
Link

Pat.. The carbs are mikuni's and I do not have the air box attached, need to find new filters first. I took the carbs apart and cleaned them up, they were in surprisingly good shape for having set so long. but if the problem doesent self correct I can always tear apart and reclean as I now it is easy to miss stuff.

Gdane... The load is always there, Its the fan

Bubbakat...Hope I dont overdoo it but I'm gonna run some cleaners throughit.

What color are you going to paint it?? There were several red ones around here a few years back, and then one show up that was Canary Yellow. The yellow one looked awesome!

Whoa slow down fellers...I wanna get some seat time first. The painting will come in do time. For now I wanna get her flying so I'll touch up the repairs with white. Was figuring on a red skirt material. However I gotta admit yellow hull with black skirt would look nice. Maybe Ill eventually paint her yellow and suffer through the red skirt till it needs replacing( about 150hrs).

Yellow with red skirt and red trim.....that would be cool, it would like one of those tricked out rice rockets :)

billlllllyons and billllllllllllyons of years ago ... or at least 25 to 30 years ago, Popular Mechanics had a DIY hovercraft project called The Yellowjacket, which of course was yellow with black trim, quite the sharp looking puffercraft

yellow sounds pretty good, or as we south jerseyans tend to call it, Yellah!!!

I must confess I've made little progress latly however I should finish the glass work this week and start on making the skirt. For now it is going to be white with red skirt however If I do paint it Yellow would proababy be the choice.

Re: Hovercraft; Neoteric Racer Rebuild

I built up the backing of the large hole and layed a couple layers of glass. The results are less than thrilling however I will proabably leave it for now and try to correct the asthetics later. Yesturday I started cutting the meterial for the skirt (420 denier nylon pack cloth with a poly coating)and finished cutting today. Man I would have never guessed it would take me that long to trace and cut 86 skirt segments (x3 pieces) 62 for the craft and enoufgh material for 24 spares. In all proabably 12 hours but is is now ready for the seamstress, Proabably me but we do not have a sewing machine. Depending on what estimates I get to sew them I will proabably buy a machine because my mother made drapries and taught me how to sew. Plus it wouldn't hurt to have one. I need to gather a few more supplies and get this skirt finished and then we will see this all come together. May take a bit yet though cause it looks like I am going to get a few days to hunt.

Have fun with the hunting. At least you have the weather for it! Still too warm around here but it will be a couple weeks before we go anyway.
On the sewing machine, I just bought a flatbed with both a flat and vamp foot that will do canvas and leather. They regulary sell around here for $175.00 or less.

Re: Hovercraft; Neoteric Racer Rebuild

Found this old sewing machine in a pawn shop for $35. It was not stitching right so I made some calls and was told it was out of time, you gotta be kidding me. I am not one to let this slow me and they wanted more to time it than I had paid, also if I could not get it to work the pawn shop agreed to take it back. 4 hours later I had timed my first sewing machine! Old machine is working great and I have got a lot of the sewing done (there is a ton to do) so far I have sewed for about 8 hours and have proabably another six to go. I have also started putting the skirt attachment velcro on the hovercraft and am about half done riviting the hull back together. Once I am done sewing there will be some pics of it coming together. I Have had the craft almost two months now and it is coming along nicley yet at times it also seems oh so slow.

Great BUY! Thats exactly the same type of machine I was talking about! I couldn't find one in a pawn shop! :-( bought it from a shop that puts a year service behind them after the sale. So I was happy enough. Little work horse!!

Re: Hovercraft; Neoteric Racer Rebuild

I severly underestamate the remaining sewing time but I now have a complete skirt system made and am headed back out to the garage to install the last 9 segments. Earlier today I finished the riveting and dropped the motor back in her and also put back some other componets I removed. Currently I am having trouble getting one of the carb cable to set right but Should have he up and going tomarrow. She is as ugly as sin yet but should be ready to fly sometime tomarrow. Pics will be added soon. Any one have any good Ideas on how to flush an internal fuel tank? It is clean except what appears to be a the remanents of a whole tanks worth of evaporated two stroke oil. For tomarrow I'll run her out of a portable can.

Neumanns I always flush with some new gas and mineral spirits and then take a drill pump you know one that chucks up into the hand drill and suck it all out. Do that a couple of times and it should be clean.
btw if something comes over my house i'll know it's not mr clause :D :D

That is a really cool boat! What kind of motor does it have? Looks like a 2 cyl. snowmobile motor? If so you could pipe and jet that bad boy, re-pitch the blades....

I'd paint it red all over, maybe put a silver or white stripe on it like the car in Starsky and Hutch(sp.).

When I was a kid I had plans to build a little hovercraft out of an inner tube and a shop vac. My dad kept catching me with the shop vac (oh man that sounded bad), and I couldn't find a long enough extension cord.

Re: Hovercraft; Neoteric Racer Rebuild

Arrrghhh.... What a flusterating week. Was having trouble with the carbs, one problem after another. Had them at the shop 4 diffrent times to get them working. Put them on and she fired right up so I flew down the drivway and back, I was comming in just a little fast so I turned it off and It would not restart. been farting around with it all afternoon to no availe. Changed plugs checked for spark etc everything seemed ok until I Borrowed a compression tester to see how I came out and dont ya knowit I screwed something up in the #2 cylinder...60 lbs compression.#1 is at 110lbs. Still dont know why It wouldnt fire but now I have larger problems than no fire.

Guess I'll have to tear it back down and see how bad the damage is but I need a break from it before I tear back into it.

Calico... Yes it is a snowmobile engine, Fuji heavy industry 45 hp it is what polaris uses.
