Good maintenance is totally worth it. After a year's worth of cleaning/rebuilding/resealing/tuning, I was awarded the following engine start yesterday:

Ugh. I know. They're like time-bombs. Not this year, though. I put around $1500 into it. It's freshwater only, so I'm going to plan on 2 more seasons from the batmobile, then I'll swap them for the conversion set.

i have the same year and make motor, i was just wondering what is wrong with this style manifolds? whats the benifit doing the conversion? thanks

They rust from the inside, eventually leaking water into the engine. Not good (can hydro-lock and break internal things). They are extremely expensive to replace ($1000/pair).

The conversion manifold kit (can find it on eBay) costs less than aftermarket/like-factory replacements and gives you the benefit of a removable riser. That makes checking them out for maintenance and fixing them if there's a problem much easier.
