I'm a member on a few forums and they have a section where you can post up some information about yourself, how you got interested in the topic, ETC. I think it would further foster the iboats sense of community to have something like this... anybody with me?

If the mods don't want to add the section, can we at least turn this thread into a meet and greet?

Well, I'll start.

My name is Zak, I'm originally from NYC and moved to NJ when I was very young. I'm 20 years old. I'm a student and the University of Pennsylvania, pursuing a double major in English literature and criminal justice and planning to go to law school in 2 years. I work as an EMT and as an SAT tutor. I got into boating when I was 17 and picked up a boat on craigslist for 200 bucks with a buddy of mine. We rebuilt everything in the interior and the motor (which I still have). My dream boat is a Sea Ray Sundancer 580. :p I don't really fish, but I'm open to trying it. I like cars and anything mechanical that I can tinker with and I really enjoy wood working and building and fixing stuff.

:D

We don't care who you are or why your interested, we just come here to argue about stuff! JUST KIDDING! :D Sounds like a plan to me!

By the way, I'm Budd. Originally from the coast, grew up on boats. Just been part of my world I guess since I was born. My dad had me out on a boat at 4 mounths old. More like a dingy!!!!

Would be a good idea for those of us who don't mind a bit of personal intrusion. As far as i'm concerned just about everything i'm about to say can be found out fairly easily any ways so:rolleyes:

I'm Tyler. Have a picture of me at a month (yes 1 month old) on my grandpa's 28' cabin cruiser. So boating is in the blood. Grew up in Barker, NY which is right on Lake Ontario. Went boating at least 2-3 times a week during the summer with my grandpa. Launched and retrieved the boat each time never once power loaded it growing up. Dreamboat would be anything. I enjoy em all. Currently a hotel desk clerk. Looking to go back to school for mechanics. Grandpa sold his boat about 5-6 years ago and every since I've had that itch. Bought a winter project which has gone much quicker than I originally thought due in large part to this website.

Grew up in Barker, NY which is right on Lake Ontario.

I used to deliver newspapers in Barker. Had a really close dance with a telephone pole out that way. 70 mph head-on in my '65 Ford Galaxie 500 with a 352. The last year they made that engine. Walked away.

Born on Cherry Point Navel Base delivered by my father who was a Corpsman on duty at the time.

Avid outdoors man. Run a F250. Protector of our constitutional rights. Proud to be an American!

It is always enjoyable to get a snapshot of who is posting ... the newbie threads are always nice to see who is joining. Many of us have them on here, you just have to search farther for some than for others ...

Delivering newspapers at 70mph in a '65 ford would be my FIRST career choice!:D Glad you werent hurt, though.

I was born and raised in Central PA (Hollidaysburg, PA to be exact). I'm also an Avid outdoorsman (Camp, Fish, Hunt) and growing up I spent every Spring/Summer weekend boating and fishing on Raystown Lake and still spend as much time as I can there. I moved to Washington D.C. in the early '90s for a career in law enforcement but after a few incidents that were too close for comfort, I regrettably decided to move back to PA a few years ago and change careers.

Re: How about a meet and greet section?

I was born and raised a few miles down the road from yorkboater. I headed to Chicago for school, but came back and finished my education in my hometown will working at the family dealership (Pontiac & Oldsmobile). Born in September and swimming and boating on Raystown in May. I am the happiest when on the water.

I am now a pastor in my hometown and oversee a mission work in Ghana, West Africa. When I am not busy at the church I am running calls with the local fire department. When not doing that I am fishing and hunting (and using the boat to do it).

I was persuaded to reopen it. I have no idea why.

Re: How about a meet and greet section?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this forum, Dockside Chat, for introductions. If you want intimate exchanges of personal info, etc. go to Facebook, Twitter, My Space, etc, etc.

There is a certain amount of privacy that we* require of members for your own protection.

We* also would like to be consulted on suggested changes (see rule #10) before and instead of public discussion.

* according to our rules.

Re: How about a meet and greet section?

After reading responses from a thread where a member was requesting a more detailed location in members profiles, I can tell you our members are clearly well versed of the importance of privacy. I don't think it was Zoppermans intent to get intimate, after all that should be left for behind closed doors (Facebook). As for rule 10 there may have been a violation there.

I for one had a very nice PM from this post. I found a member with similar interests that lived very close by when I lived in NY. I may have even delivered newspapers to him at one time.

I don't see how that could be a bad thing. I would imagine there are many people who found and fostered good relationships through this forum.

Yep, GD, you got my intention.

I'm didn't really see it as a violation, but if it is, feel free to zap it.
