Re: How are you going to vote?

It is nice to be a civil servant.
I will walk from my desk to the booth, vote and go back to my desk.
My coffee will not even get cold while voting.I may even do it about one minute before I open the doors to let voters in.

If you want a taste of the nasty old days, scroll down to "similar threads" and read the top thread.
It has some great blasts of the past.

I voted last week via absentee ballot. Will be volunteering with senior citizens on Nov 4th.

So, as far as I'm concerned, the election is done. They can stop with the campaign ads right now!!!

Re: How are you going to vote?

ACORN wasn't about vote fraud, it was about financial fraud. They (like many organizations) were paid to register new voters (regardless of the political affiliation of those voters), and they were paid on a per registration basis. What these groups are supposed to do is stand out in front of the supermarkets or malls, and try to get people who are walking by to register, or go door to door, etc. So they immediately hired a bunch of teenagers to go out and collect those registrations on a commission basis. Quite predictably, it didn't take long before some unscrupulous kids figured out that they could get paid a lot more without wasting their saturday at the mall by forging registrations... so they grabbed the white pages and started registering everyone, regardless of if they weren't elegible or already registered, etc. With most of those organizations, those invalid registrations are weeded out by the managers, but like many businesses, ACORN's managers were pressured to produce results, regardless of how they got them, so many of them knowingly passed along those invalid registrations to get paid out on. Some of them already have been held accountable for their part in that fraud scheme and have been prosecuted, and others still need to be. But that's what ACORN was all about, so now you know.

I'm sorry, but I very much disagree.

Back to topic, I believe the early voting should not be allowed, unless you have a good reason( i.e. out of the country serving your country). You have not only a constitutional right to vote, but a constitutional duty as well to serve the very document that protects you from your government. Is it too much to ask to take some time out of your life, one day out of 1460, to stand in line for 30 minutes?

Absentee voting, or no fault absentee does open the door in my opinion for fraud. There is no way to know if the ballot was scewed, or the vote persuaded, or in many states if it was even filled out by the proper person. If even one vote is fraudulent, all votes are compromised, and thus the election fraudulent.

I think you should for your opinion on who your going to vote for by hearing as much information as possible, and then deciding. Voting does not allow for this. You can cast your vote before the campaign is even over. What happens if new information (ok lets' call it was it is "the truth") comes out, and this information makes you decide not to vote for candidate X. But you all ready sent in your ballot early. Now what? Too bad............ In my opinion, you should do it like everybody else does, on Nov 4.

Re:, How are you going to vote?

With all the registration cards I got from ACORN, I am not sure if I should vote in alphabetical order or just randomly and do a few a day, everyday.
I'm so busy voting I don't have time to winterize my Yacht.

Re: How are you going to vote?

Goodness. I like the idea of a voter reg card or drivers licience.

Down under we just turn up and give our name, which they 'locate on the roll", then put a pencil line thru it.
Think about it!!!!

Hence the saying we have (related to our Labour Party....socialists.....now in Govt) is that if you vote Labour, then vote early and vote often.

I am sure the scrutineers 'should' pick up someone who votes using their own name at more than one booth, but the biggest problem occurs when someone votes using their name, then at other booths, votes again using names of recently deceased etc.

Add to this the fact that it is compulsory to vote, and if you don't then you get fined.
This was introduced by Labour as they found their supporters were reluctant to vote if it was wet and miserable, or there was a top game of footy on, or something as important.

No one is game to introduce laws forcing voters to produce personal identity, as those at the bottom of the scale would vote them out for it.

I like your scheme.

In my case, I simply will not have the ability to vote on the 4th, so if I was forced to wait until the 4th, I would not be able to vote.

I agree. Also, in both cases of early voting and absentee ballot, if the vote is cast before the 4th, then the person dies before the election, the vote shouldn't have been cast, but it was, and is counted like all the others, even though the voter is deceased on election day. However, I think that as long as there is a comfortable lead by the winners of the election, then it doesn't really matter if there is a smaller percentage of "bad" votes.

I think you should for your opinion on who your going to vote for by hearing as much information as possible, and then deciding. Voting does not allow for this. That may be true, but in my case, there wasn't anything that could have come out that would have changed my vote... and that's often the case with many voters who will vote for their candidates, regardless of anything else, either because of strong party affiliation, or because their pick has already proven him/herself in that position to that voter, or because the voter dislikes the current incumbent enough to be willing to vote for anyone as long as it's someone else (which was often the case on my ballot).

Wow Phil, sounds like your elections are meaningless. I can only imagine how everyone must be left wondering who really won... and never having the opportunity to find out.

I agree absentee should only be if one cannot be in the continental US. Why can't the Presidential election be a mandatory holiday where EVERYTHING (except the polls) is closed and shut down. This would eliminate the need for the absentee ballots. Just my pee brained idea that I think makes sense.........SS

Good idea. I know the public sector does this. It wouldn't hurt voter turn out.
On a personal note, I think you're working for the wrong company.:)

It would help if we change the Constitution so that we did not have to vote on a Tuesday in November. Who's stupid idea was this and why? If it was on a Saturday turn out would me much higher and it would be soooo much easier to go and vote.

Truth? In campaign ads? hahahaha. Even if it's disclosed that the candidate I support had eaten several children, he'd still be the better choice.:D

I just Hate living on the fringe of a Blue State... Talk about being Disenfranchised....

You bring up an interresting point there... and one that I've thought of every election for a long time. I live in a solidly red state, and you live in a solidly blue state. Both our states would likely vote the same way, regardless of who the candidates are. That makes all the candidates completely ignore our states once the primaries are over. It also means the elected parties are ignoring us, instead of courting us after the election is over in prep for the next election. I dare say, it's probably done a lot to hurt our states, economically, and in virtually every other sense over swing states. Not to mention the disenfrancisement that occurs with people who vote opposite to the way that state votes.

I think we should revamp the electoral college system anyway, and instead of diving up the electoral votes by state, divide them up by county. Every county would get at least one electoral vote, and depending upon population (measured by registered voters) it could go up from there. That wouldn't do much to address the problems mentioned above, but it would at least limit the disenfrancisement, and give a more accurate outcome.

Ayuh,....

Excellent Idea,... I'm All for it....

It would make Ny.a purple state, as the Only blue counties would be the 5 of NYC.....
Well,... Maybe a couple of others, but Not the majority of the 62 in this state...

Change the Constitution because it's a bit inconvenient for some? NO way! What else would you change because of an inconvenience?

You do realize that you are allowed time off from work to vote, right? Depending on the state you live you in, you could be paid for that time.

I'm voting on election day. I plan to get up early and be at the polls when they open. I live in a red state. :)
