How big is to big TV

We have been looking into getting a new flat screen tv. As it stands with all of the information I have read we should get about a 40 to a 42 inch screen for the distance we will be sitting from the screen.

What are the pros and cons of getting a bigger screen?

There is no such thing, I bought a 50" plasma and sit 12 feet away...should have got the 60".

I agree with 4JawChuck. I've got a 52" and I'm 15' away. I wish I would have gone bigger too.

watched a 57projection from 8 feet away. had to lean back but it was ok. wish I had the 65

Go as big as your wallet will allow. Once you get it home you will beat yourself up about the size. Size does matter.

I've been watching on my 26" console TV and have no desire to get a larger screen, I'll save for my swim platform, unless I can get one at the Goodwill for cheap.

If you have to turn your head from side to side to view the entire picture from your seating area, it is too big.

I love my projector! 10x10 ft screen for $500. cant beat it!

Already got the surround sound(Onkyo HT-R340) and does it fill the room.

I have the unusual postion here.. Just about two weeks ago I bought a 47" LG flat panel.. It was beautiful. Just a stunning picture.. The problem was that it just totally dominated the room.

I took it back, much to the derision of my kids, and got the 42" LG flat panel. It is still gorgeous, just smaller.

When I brought it back and said it was too big, they kind of looked at me strangely..

What is cool is that both the Blu-ray player and the TV I bought have internet connections on them. They can both stream Netflix movies and you can rent movies online from Vudu (on the TV) or CinemaNow (on the BR player). Both of them can also stream youtube as well.

If you are looking at 42" class, look at the LG. I have a 32" LG as well and I have been very pleased. The model I bought is the 42lh50. I was not impressed by the Sony's as the ones I looked at did not have the contrast ratio that the LG has. Samsung are also nice..

Mine is a 120hz which is just fine. If you can afford the 240hz or the LED models, they are another level of stunning..

The wife and I are currently having this argument.
We plan on buying an LCD at tax time.
We currently have a 51 inch projection.
I am thinking a 50 to 55 however she insists on a 60 or larger.
I am thinking I am going to lose this battle (if I give in to her on a TV my next boat will come much easier)

I have a 50" Plasma in a 16x20 room. I sit about 10-12 feet from mine most of hte time. It is perfect for us, but I do not think the 60" would have been to big either, not for viewing. It was to big for my wallet...
