Thanks!

Why don't you get the little digital one that quicksilver makes, it wraps around the coil and there you go .......

as I have never seen an 8.8HP yamaha I cant help much.
they dont import that model into the US.
most small Yamahas use a 4 pole altenator so be aware of that when purchasing a tachometer.
the US market color codes are as posted above. depending on your engine model it may be nessasary to purchase the rectifier kit as well.
my advice would be to check with a local dealer.

Rodbolt -

Thanks for making me realize that I mistakenly asked about an outboard I don't have! OOOOPS!!

I have a 2008 8hp Yamaha T8DPLR.

Guys - sorry - does that change any of your advice?

Thanks

T8DPLR.
T is high thrust,8 is shaft horespower,D is a new model designator, P is power trim with electric start,L is 20" shaft and R is remote control.
all the stuff you need for the tach other than the correct tach and harness is on the engine already.
only consideration is the tach pole setting will now be a 6 pole so make sure whatever tach is used can be set to 6 pole.
while rather pricey the yamaha digital tach has an hourmeter plus visuals for overtemp or oil pressure indicates.
that and its plug and play.
the reason for the first post is yamaha and suzuki both actually manufacture engines that we dont see in the US market.
as I am behind a monitor and cant see nor know where the motor is all I can go by is what I read.

Thanks to all - especially Rodbolt!

I think I've got a handle on it now.
