How can I tell if I need stator or just rectifier?

Guys, I am thinking of adding a charging system to my 2002 15 hp merc 4 stroke ser#OT570762 to charge batts while trolling. I've been searching posts for hours and the only thing I don't know is, if I need the "stator auxillary" (#86704T11) or not. I know I need the rectifier (#853358T1). Some posts say all I need is the rectifier and others say I need both. Also, how much current will I get at trolling speed? I wonder if it will even charge at low rpm? Thanks a bunch......Frank.

Two -Stroke or 4 Stroke

The part #'s you listed are for the 2 stroke

The Sea Pro 4 stroke is a totally different creature

I could be wrong, but I don't see any charging system listed

Ahhhhhhhh

Under Merc/Mariner there is a 15 4 Stroke Bodensee

http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...nbr=11805&bnbr=30&bdesc=Electrical+Components
that does have
835399T CHARGING COIL $38.53
835406 RECTIFIER/REGULATOR (Manual) $46.19

Before you order anything you should check out all the views related to BOTH the above 4 strokes to be certain which is your motor, they are NOT interchangable.

Thanks Charlie, it's a 4 stroke. Sorry about the confusing part #s I listed. I must admit, I'm still a bit confused though. Looks like I need the rectifier/regulator for sure but am not able to determine about stator. I'm thinking it needs one because it's a manual start motor so why would it have a charging stator? Any thoughts on the output current at low rpm? Might not be worth the trouble. Thanks.

You need to look at BOTH links I posted, BOTH are Merc 15 HP 4 stroke motors

Which one is your motor?

DO NOT order any parts until you are SURE, if you cannot tellll which one is your motor then remove the flywheel, the Bodensee will have room to add the charge coil, the Sea Pro will not as it uses a complete stator.

OK, I'm a little slow but I'm gettin there. Looks like I have the Bodensee. I'll need the charging coil and rectifier. Being an outboard I'm guessing I'll need a "special tool" to get the flywheel off? Thanks for the help....Frank.
