Hello wise boaters,

I'm looking to buy another used boat. What are some of the things I need to look for when i am inspecting the hull.

how can i tell if the boat has a bad stringer? How can i tell if the transom is bad or cracked? I kind of know the basics but I always have room for more knowledge and information.

any help or advice would be appreciated. thank you.

well, as far as the stringers go, if the floor is solid chances are the stringers are ok. if u find any soft spots on the floor u can bet yur ass the stringers underneath are bad. on the hull/transom, rap against it with theheel of your hand. if it sounds solid it probably is. check for blisters, stress cracks. good luck.

Check the deck very well. Depending on the boat, there will be several access plates that may let you inspect the stringers. Look closely at the fuel tank, hoses, etc... Don't be shy inspecting the transom either. There are alot of smart folks on this board (and others), if you post what kind of boat you are looking at they can probably give you some specific areas of concern. Good luck.
