how can i tell the hours on a motor

i have a 1986 force (want to be a) 85 hp<br />outboard.is there a meter that i dont see?

You can't unless someone put a hour meter on it and even then i wouldn't trust it .All new EFI/DFI engines record the hours in their ECU/EMM.If the motor is still on the boat and you want to look (some people hide the meters) look under and around the helm and also around the where the battery/batteries are mounted.
