Re: How can I tell what out drive I have

here's a link that's helpful in general. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=288430 check out #10 for id of your drive.
that said. looks to me like '76 there's only 1 ford choice per a mercruiser engine/drive application chart. a 302 w/ a mc-1 drive called the 888...

pics can help.
other's may have modified what you have to more modern. ie a alpha1. mc-1, 1-r, 1-mr, and alpha1 are all very similar and somewhat interchangeable drives.

for sure ya don't have an alpha1 genII. that happened in the early 90's..

Howdy, in general its probably not an Alpha before 90 or so.....

That year could be an 888 or 898

Using Doug Russell parts, MarineEngine.com or other parts supplier, you can (using your serial number) determine what you need.....

It's possible that you have a 1975 or a 76 model but you have to verify using serial number.

Go to Doug Russell or other parts supplier that has a searchable parts database.

Be aware that as old as that boat is, someone could have pulled the original drive, gimbal etc and replaced it with something newer or even older (unless you're the original owner!)

Being a 75 or 76, it would have to be a 888, (the 898 is a Chevy) and would have a Merc One drive. If you go to the link that Rick posted, the bottom of the list is for the outdrives, in that year they used the eng model to ID the drive, so you would want to click on the 888 outdrive. That will take you here ---- http://www.dougrussell.com/partscat...=04&coldesc=888 1971-1977

see attachment.
also. if your looking for the number on the port side of the upper drive. the number can be stamped very lightly. the paint even can cover it up so ya don't know it's there.

look close, it's where the paint is scratched off mine.

Ayuh,... It's the same drive, 'n transom assembley...

The bellows don't care what carb is on the motor....

Those old drives are most All Model 1s, just with different names...
