How can I test my engine without going to the lake?

My motor has not been running in the lake but has been running in the driveway. I used to be running 1700 rpm at idle in the driveway and now i'm running 1000 rpm in the driveway. I don't want to pay all the fees to go to the lake and my engine not work. Is there anyway to test my enigne under load in my driveway?

You could test the motor at your house with a teat tank and a test prop. If you do not have these, you likely need to take your chances at the lake.

it should be fine at the lake at 1000rpms, take a wrench and screw driver, and get it to idle at 650-750 in gear in the water.

Re: How can I test my engine without going to the lake?

What I don't understand is that I had my idle rpms at 1600 in the driveway and the motor wouldn't stay running at the lake. So, why would it run now if I have lowered the rpms to 1000? Can someone explain to me why this is?

Thanks,

Matt

Aha! More information. If it runs in the driveway, but not at the lake, that points to missing spark on one cylinder. At least that's the most common reason, although low compression is another possibility.

Sounds to me like we need the model number of your engine and a more complete description of what it does, exactly, at the lake.
