How come no Mag.'s???

Last year before I got the "boat bug" I was into off-roading with my FJ Cruiser. I was involved with a great forum on the internet for FJ Cruisers, much like this forum. There would be meet's & outings at off-road parks & stuff like that all the time. Now that I have a boat I spend all of my time with that, fixing, repairs stuff like that. When into the truck thing I subscribed to a few different magazine's, OFF Road mag., Truck mag.. In these magazine's there would be great reads about wheeling, pictures, reader rides, manufacture's ad.'s, cool aftermarket add on's, basic magazine stuff. Always had great reading material for restroom time. I've been looking at super markets, wal-mart, book stores, everywhere that has magazine's in my area & find nothing for the boat guy's/women. Am I missing something? Is there a bunch that just don't make it to Pa.? If anyone knows of a magazine I could subscribe to let me know. I'm most intrested in Bowriders, I'm not yet into the big cruisers, some day after I hit the Power Ball I guess:D, Thanks for any leads. Gonna check "Google" to see what comes up.

All the boating mags I've seen are into selling big boats, and selling dreams you can't afford. I can see no use for them in helping enjoy boating.

In other words, a real boater doesn't have time to read a magazine.:D

Re: How come no Mag.'s???

there are tons of boating magazines. I can't think of any of the names offhand however but they are definitely out there. the only one I get anymore is sail magazine (it's a dream of mine) used to get a couple power boat mags.
can find subscriptions at boat shows if you can't find any locally or on line.

None of the ones I've ever gotten (Boating Life, Trailer Boats, etc) were ever worth much of anything

Magazines are going by the wayside :( but ..... the iboats site is thriving ;)

You should be receiving an iboats newsletter monthly too..... by email.

Yup...... the current stock of magazines out there are all the newest boats and in my opinion....... we have better information available to us here online

Yeah, me too!

I was going through and airport, had an unexpected delay, so I went to the store there that sells gum ,magazines and books. They had several boating magazines on the rack, including Boating Magazine. Basically just a big advertisement , and a few reviews of new boats, ones that I would never own. I bought it anyway! Read ever word, review, and ad while waiting around for my flight. Not all that useful for me, but opened my eyes to a few things.

I like to read articles about tech stuff and new models when I can. keeps the dream alive to get something better/bigger/newer/faster or whatever. always fun to see what else is out there.

Check out DIY Boat Owner, by far the best boating magazine I've found, the down side is only 6 issues a year.

Wooden Boat is another one, a little more sail oriented than power boat but still some interesting articles.

Lastly if you join BoatUS you get a monthly magazine that isn't too bad along with a smaller magazine focused on trailering and trailerable boats.

In my "ThroneRoom" I love to look through a catalog called "Fisheries Supply" or "West Marine". Marine Parts are all I need to dream about.....:D

Trailer Boats and Boating World are your best bets for small boats. Boating spends too much time on mega-yachts. The current situation with the boating economy results in a greatly reduced advertising budget and a consequent smaller editorial content. The magazines won't improve until sales do.

I've found a few that look interesting. I agree, a real boater hasn't got time to read mag.'s, but don't you ever find yourself in the crapper for an extended time? That's what I want it for, crapper time:D

Re: How come no Mag.'s???

I'd like to say that I agree on the suggestion for Trailer Boats, but I haven't read a copy of it in years. There is so much information available on the internet, that I don't really see the need to read most any magazine, much less boating magazines.

I think that the internet has changed the publishing world quite a bit and we'll see fewer paper magazines in the future.
