Someone said maybe new impellor might be turning the wrong way. If I bent the tips counter clockwise and the key is in,doesnt it have to spin only one way. Im not getting any water to the thermostat. It bubbles like crazy in the garbage can. Is $50.30 crazy for just a thermostat? !966 Evinrude 80 h.p.

THM... It would have been better if you continued with your original post. However, since you're here, I'll fill in a few answers.

It doesn't really matter in which direction you install the impeller. As soon as the engine turns over, the impeller will flex in the proper direction.

There should be a copper water tube that inserts into the grommet of the water pump housing to carry the water up to the powerhead.

If you want to have an idea as how the impeller should be inserted, hold the water pump housing in your left hand. Hold the impeller in your right hand. Now, spin the impeller in a counter clockwise direction into the pump housing. That's it.

$80.00 is way too much for a thermostat if you're buying it over the counter, but if that includes labor, that's another matter.

THM,

Were you at gunpoint when you handed over the $50.00? That dealer is a CROOK.

THM.... I thought that thermostat price quite high. However, I just looked it up in the OMC price book I have (slightly outdated) and it approaches that $50.00 figure. I've still got two new ones left in stock. I can remember when they were about $3.95.

Hi guys,
on some motors the plate unde5rneath the impeller housing can be installed upside down. This can cause the inlet and outlet to be on the same side . it causes very poor flow but will run on muffs. the inlet and outlet need to be separated by about 180 degrees. also the water inlet is at the bottom check it isnt blocked with silicon etc.

good luck
Graeme
