Re: How did you come up with your boat name

First off I'm new to posting on this forum but have been lurking since last year searching threads for tips and so on. It's been a awesome source for questions I've had and things I have stumbled upon and learned. So thanks to everybody who contributes.

Secondly, I named my boat "WAR EAGLE" ....... I know kinda lame sounding to say it to some but when I was researching on naming a boat the most common thing I ran across was you should name it something that meant something special to you. I chose this for two reasons. Most people know that war eagle is associated with Auburn University and we are the Auburn Tigers. Some people however also say we have a identity crisis often asking what are you guys tigers or eagles. With that said you often find yourself on gameday, get togethers, vacations, airports ect explaining the real story behind it all. War eagle is Auburn's motto and battle cry. So my first reason would obviously be for naming the boat war eagle is for my deep love for the university and everything it represents. Secondly war eagle to the Auburn family means many things. To me and many others it means Hello, how are you, good to see you, glad your here, I respect you, see you soon, it's how you open and close many friendly conversations with people that you love and respect or even just a simple hello in passing with someone you never met but know they are Auburn men and women. So with all that said me and my wife boat most of the time with a group of friends or family on weekends on Lake Guntersville, AL and when we are there it's our release from life to just relax and have fun. So when people are on my boat or tied up and anchored together with friends we want people to feel welcome, respected, have a wonderful time, know they are welcomed back and see you next weekend. That's why we named her WAR EAGLE.

Re: How did you come up with your boat name

My 22' wellcraft remains unnamed. Before I bought it, I was reading threads on this board about random boat topics. I remember reading a post stating that the boat will start having major problems once it gets named. Thus, I have a bare white transom.

If I were to put a name on it, my wife and I decided to call it: "IT BROKE".

Everything we own (house, cars, etc), despite being new and under warranty, seems to break on a regular basis. The name seems fitting to our lifestyle.

Re: How did you come up with your boat name

Got my last boat from some folks who I believe were swingers. Boat was named: "Nautigal"

Current boat when we bought it was named: "Foolish Pleasure" Knowing what we know now I'm thinking of changing that one to "Foolish Purchase".

We have 5 kids... and thought a good name that fit our family would be "Bouys & Gills"

Someday we plan to get a bigger boat and name it: "Fire Xcape". Below you'll see the way we want it laid out.
----FiRe
-------Xcape

Can't put the graphics in this text box, but you get the point. The dotted lines are just there for spacers to aling the words in this text box. I am firefighter and my wife is a pharmacist. We'll use the "R" in the word Fire and the "X" in the word Xcape to make the phatmacy RX symbol.

Re: How did you come up with your boat name

Well our first boat was a 1984 Malibu Skier...and after all the hassles of trying to get that darn Mercury 1500 motor to run right, and camping trips where it had let us down I came up with the name Moody Blues.

Our current boat we tried really hard to think of a name for it. I wanted to name it Summer Breeze because I like Seals and Crofts and it reminded me of a lazy day on the lake...however my wife did not like it.

One thing I always would tell my wife was As You Wish...which came from the movie The Princess Bride. In the movie it really meant I Love You...and that has become our new boat's name. As You Wish

When I had my Eclipse 216, we named her "Not So Fast!" because she tried to kill us on the sea trial. We were running 50-55 across the lake with the wind behind us and turned to head back to the marina. When I turned we tipped over the top of a wave. That threw the broker across the bench seat in back, nearly threw me out of the driver's seat and spun the boat around in a hard 180. Everybody was yelling Not so fast! Slow down!

Re: How did you come up with your boat name

I had an old tin boat with an early '60's outboard. I was trolling past a father and son fishing on the bank. Father says to his little one "That boat is a dinosaur". The kid says "Like Jurrasic Park?" I named her "Jurassic Park". The next time the kid saw the boat I had the name on her. He loved it.

Went to the Bahamas in my 18' CC for some fishing. Customs said I was sick for crossing in a little boat like that. We were fishing a tournament in 5 foot plus seas in the same boat. We hooked up on a sailfish. A couple local captains that knew me were on the radio talking about how sick I am for being out there. (I didn't know any better) One captain named her SASTO...Some Are Sicker Than Others. A friend made me the logo and the name stuck.

If I ever name another boat it will be either "Merry Ann" after my late Mother, Mary Ann.....Or "Gayla Dawn" after my Daughter.

Re: How did you come up with your boat name

It was a cool winter night in the garage working on the boat. Was a pass time for a couple friends and I. I have a nice garage. 38' by 28', insulated, satellite, walk in grease pit, 10' ceiling..etc.. As with most nights a cheap plastic bottle of generic grocery store 1.75 bottle of whiskey comes out. NASTY but unbreakable on the cement floor. As it went around, one said, "there are not enough O's in smooth to describe this whiskey". So it stuck!!boat3 015.jpg

My dinky jon boat is a fishing boat. It was named the Bass-O-Matic after the old skit on Saturday Night Live.

When we got the Four Winns it was not named. I was working as a bartender and I created a drink that was called the RipTide. It was based on a variant of a MaiTai and Bahama Mamma. My wife decided the name of the boat should be the RipTide.

"SIZE MATTERS"

For obvious reasons that are sometimes not so obvious.

Foobiehazzie: Rump Shaker....my daughter made up this word when she was in diapers. She turned 13 last month. She would say foobiehazzie and then shaker her butt....the more we laughed the more she did it. Never figured out how or where she came up with the word but it kinda stuck....

My wife doesn't like the shake your butt talk ..so she says it means to celebrate with a little shake .

As I grew up my answer to most things was "Just Because", I bought my first boat at 18 and ever since when non-boaters say they don't understand why anyone would buy a boat I just reply "Just Because", thus my boat is "JUST BECAUSE"

"Dehydrated"

I think it's self explanatory :)

I've already decided my next boat will be named "Don't Panic!"....Written upside down :)

I'm thinking of going with Patchwork. Not sure yet. After reading about names can be bad luck I may just leave it alone. It's just a 12' alum fishing boat anyway.

I think I will paint "Send Help" on the bottom of the hull. No one will see it unless I really need help.

Come to think of it, shouldn't they all come that way from the factory?
