Hi rusty, If you have the manual it is really easy. If not you should get one, If you don't have a manual you have a fool for a mechanic.

On my motor the shift linkage is under the carb. You need to unhook the pin in it before the leg will drop. It is a bit fiddly but once you've done it a couple of times it is pretty easy. Also you need to remove the bolt under the fin on your skeg plate. Probably best to get the complete kit instead of just the impeller, that way you know that your seals are good.

thanks andrew i was getting charged about 150 bucks everytime i got it done and since i use the motor all season and in the winter for duck / goose hunting i like to have it changed more often than not. i have a ton of tools and can do just about anything just wanted to do some research before i jump into it. thanks

No probs, I am the same. I don't know much apart from what I read on this forum and in my manual. But most of the stuff is pretty easy if you take your time and ask the experts here for help. Good luck with the water pump, let us know how you get on.

I only spin and fly for trout in the streams, and been too busy getting boat ready for ski season to go fishing lately. When you shange the water pump it may be worth checking the tstats and watre cases around the cylinders. I changed my water pump last week and nothing, took out tstat full of crud, removed heads and were full of crud too. Obviouslt the previous owner didn't flush. At least when i'm finished I will know how old everything is.
