Re: how do i cut down my bow rail

We had an ,89 Bayliner Capri and the bow rail was just in the wrong spot when cruising around. It blocked my view at a critical spot. I was always stretching my neck to look and be sure no one was in our path. I lowered the bow rail quite easily. All of the joints were slip joints locked in place with a set screw. Just shorten the angled uprights, slide the top fitting so the upright fits easily in the deck fitting and tighten, repeat at all fittings. Well it's not quite that easy but you get the idea. It can be done and it will look good when done too. And I agree, when lowered it does give it a sportier look.

The O/P's rail is probably welded stainless... no slip fittings

If the "T" fittings on the top where the uprights intersect the bow rail are slip ons it should be pretty straightforward. Great job on that Chris Craft, Looks great.

Without seeing the boat my opinion would be to just leave it as is. It's safer with the OEM rail. Better resale if the boat has any value. I wish I had a bow rail on mine. When ever someone thinks they are helping me when docking the first thing they grab for is my Sirius antenna puck that I mounted on the bow :(

Here is an example of a cut down bow rail. IMHO, that soaring bowrail was useless for a small boat that you might like to exit over the bow. It was also a hazard. Not only did I shorten the rise, I cut the center out of it so you could exit over the bow but still have something to grab on to.

your boats look nice with shorter bow rails, i plan to cut the center section out of mine as well. i think im gonna go ahead and get a scrap bow rail from a junk yard to use as a test piece before i cut up mine. i will take pics and start a tread and share with you guys when i get around to doing it, thanks alot for all the advice.
