How do I determine year of EV 115hp

I am going to look at a olded boat with supposably an early to mid 1980's 115 Evinrude on it. Guy is not sure of exact year. Does the S/n Identify yr?<br />Thanks <br />PSt

The model number does.Look on the transom bracket tag.If missing look for freezeplug looking welsh plug on the engine block.

It's lettercoded.81'=CI,82'=CN,83'=CT,84'=CR,85'=CO,86'=CD,87'=CU,88'=CC,and so on

The word "INTRODUCES", correlated to the numbers 1-10 designate the year. For example, in the sample Serial # E35ELENS, E designates evinrude, 35 designates horsepower, E designates electric start, L designates Long shaft, EN is year model 1992. I'm not sure of the last "S". I believe that is an internal OMC designation. I believe I'm correct, but if not, I'm sure that someone will correct me-- This site is loaded with OMC experts!--Good luck!
