I have a mercruiser 4cyl 165hp IO……….. can anyone tell me what to do to get it ready for this season !!! It has sat for 2yrs but was winterized before it was put away. I have never owned an inboard before and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated ….

I would suggest first and foremost to drain your gas tank and get some fresh fuel in there. I would change the plugs and the oil and filter as well. Might not hurt to spray a little pentrating oil in the cylinders while you have the plug out.
Check to see if you have a fuel filter/H20 separator and change that as well. Put a charge on the battery.
I used to have a diesel inboard, and after any extended period of inactivity, I would pour some dawn soap on my raw water pump impellor to help it prime and lubricate it until the water came through. You may not be able to do that with an I/O and I now pour a little in the hose before hooking up the muffs to start my outboard on the trailer.

Good luck.

We are getting increased numbers of people asking for how to get engines ready for the season, we therefore, put up the following information page with some of the basics. The URL of the article is: http://www.boatmotors.com/engine_maintenance.html

Engine owner's manuals or shop manuals will always be a good resource on how to care for your engine as well. Hope this helps and happy boating!
