I am looking for some ways to get some more power out of my 220 hp 5.0GL Volvo Penta. Does anyone know of some ways to do this, preferably as cost effective as possible?

Do you have a stainless prop of the proper pitch? Most cost effective way to increase performance. Next thing to do is swap carb. The factory manifold is actually spreadbore 4 barrel with an adapter plate to mount OEM 2 barrel carb. Swapping out to a Holly or some other 4 barrel will yield you some more power.

Stroke it! More torque with a longer stroke, more cubes and more time for the piston at the top of the stroke to take maximum effect of the burning charge.
