here's the deal i just bought a new 12/24 trolling motor to replace my 12 volt model. heres the problem i have no idea how to connect my 2 deepcycle batteries to support a 12/24. i have 2 red positive cables and 1 black negative cable comming from trolling motor plug at the bow. the plug says it's a 12/24 plug so i guess its ok. theres also on free space (electrode?) on back of the plug i assume to connect another black ground. i've been told i have to connect them in series, then i was told to connect a jumper from one batt neg to one batt positive i'm completely lost HELP

you got it right
connect the pos(+) of one batt to the pos(+) side of the motor.
connect the neg(-) side of that batt. to the pos(+) side of the other batt.
your final connection is the neg(-) side of the second batt. to the ground side of the motor.
now you have 24 V ;)

Ditto MrNobody
Hope this helps....
The interesting part is ....how are you going to charge them? If you don't want to charge them individually, I can draw a diagram to put them in parallel with the flick of a switch....
:)

Please reply here when you have received this pic, so I can delete it from my web host. The switch pole on the right (not hooked to anything )was drawn in by mistake.
I couldn't erase ink :)
You need a 15AMP or higher switch, unless one is mounted in the TM's controler.
Sorry about the freehand drawing.I hope this clears it up.OOOPS!! TWO red wires!!! My bad.
You have the switch inside the trolling motor,so you wont need the switch. Just wire the internal switch as it is in the drawing then.
